Walk the classic ABC trail through Gurung villages to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), then helicopter out of the Sanctuary to Pokhara in 25 minutes.
Annapurna Helicopter Return Trek Overview The Annapurna Helicopter Return Trek solves the biggest complaint about the classic ABC route: the knee-grinding 3-day descent back out of the Sanctuary. Walk up the same beautiful trail through Gurung villages and rhododendron forest, stand beneath Annapurna I at sunrise, then board a helicopter at the base camp helipad and land back in Pokhara before lunch. Total trip time is 6 days instead of the usual 9 to 11. Why the heli exit matters Saves two full trekking days and roughly 4,000 meters of cumulative descent Eliminates the avalanche-prone gorge walk below Machhapuchhre Base Camp on tired legs Aerial views of the entire Modi Khola valley, Poon Hill ridge and Pokhara valley on the flight out Ideal for travelers with limited time, joint concerns, or onward commitments Flight logistics and weight rules Helicopters operate from a dedicated helipad at Annapurna Base Camp (and a backup pad at Machhapuchhre Base Camp in high wind). Passenger weight plus cabin gear is capped at roughly 80kg per seat on shared flights; private charters take up to 5 seats. Morning departures are the most reliable window. Weather cancellations are rare in spring
Helicopter weight limit is strict: seat + cabin bag together must stay under 80kg; we weigh in Pokhara. Weather cancellations are rare but possible; the fallback is a same-day walk to MBC and a next-morning flight. Heli seating is assigned by pilot for weight balance; window seats cannot be guaranteed on shared flights. Private heli charters for 1 to 5 seats can be arranged at a supplement on request.
